Rural Trip Diary Day 2
It’s been another fun-filled day for the campaign in rural Nevada. We’ve met a lot of people who agree that our state needs new leadership and a vision for its long-term future.
We started the day with a wonderful breakfast at the Red Lion in Elko and great discussion about the state’s struggling education system. Rory’s working hard on putting together what will be a groundbreaking plan to reform schools.
Rory did some media interviews, including one with longtime Elko journalist Lori Gilbert on KENV-10. Segments of the interview will be airing over the next few days and we’ll be sure to post some clips on this site.

Matt Holford hosted a house party at his unique home in Wells. Matt bought a 99-year-old bank, one of the oldest in Nevada, and converted it into a house. The old vault – with a huge lock still attached – serves as his living room. It was definitely one of the coolest homes anywhere in the state.

Matt and Wells residents also have serious concerns about education in Nevada. The fact that more than 50 percent of students aren’t graduating sends a signal to a lot of people that serious reform is needed.
We closed out the day in Ely with another event. The people in White Pine County are concerned about water rights. But they also share a passion for finding ways to diversify Nevada’s economy.
About 120 miles later we’re resting in Eureka for the night, getting ready for a breakfast tomorrow at the Owl Casino here and looking forward to a tour of the Nevada Copper Mine in Yerington.
We’ll keep you posted and can’t wait to visit more communities all over the state.
Rory truly wants to hear from all Nevadans. So drop us a line about the issues important to you.
