  • Las Vegas, NV – Rory Reid issued the following statement in response to Gov. Jim Gibbons’ State of the State address this evening:

“This is a sad day for Nevada. The consequences of this budget crisis will take a severe toll on our families and our businesses. But this situation is a result of the void of leadership in the governor’s office. The failure to develop any strategy for diversifying our economy – even in the face of global recession, brought us to this day.

The signs have been there for years that Nevada's economy could not survive by relying only on tourism. The governor has failed to do anything to spur long-term economic development and has failed Nevada. Now the governor has opted to cut education – a devastating course of action, and exactly the wrong way to build for a better future.

We must move forward with a clear plan and a clear mission: to build a diverse economy utilizing our state’s assets to provide jobs for the 21st century and a first-class education system."
