Ethics in Government

Shortly after Rory was elected to the Clark County Commission, he spearheaded the drive to reform county ethics laws. He brought forth a package of ethics rules adopted by the Commission that changed the way county contracts are awarded, stopped the revolving door of lobbying, and held employees and elected officials accountable if they violated ethics rules. Rory has never had an ethics complaint filed against him.

Rory’s plan to reform state government – A Foundation of Trust – includes dozens of proposals for improving government and making it more transparent.

These are the steps Rory will take to ensure an ethical state government:

  • End lobbying by legislators.
  • End the "non-willful" loophole and penalize all ethics law violators.
  • Establish a two-year “cooling off” period before former legislators or state employees can represent private industry in front of the Legislature.
  • Increase transparency at every level, starting with the executive branch.
