Rural Trip Diary Day 1
We just wrapped up a great first day on our rural tour. Nearly 300 miles later – including stops in Lovelock, Winnemucca and Battle Mountain – we’re resting in Elko for the evening.

Tom Moura, a rancher in Lovelock, gave Rory and a couple of staffers an intimate tour of his 3,000-acre ranch. Just as we pulled in a calf was being born. Tom, Republican, shared his thoughts on diversifying Nevada’s agricultural economy.

It was a tremendous reminder of the amazing people that live in Nevada. Tom has been a lifelong Nevadan and plans to pass his land down to his son. But he’s concerned about some of the things happening in Nevada.
In Winnemucca, about 40 people attended an event at French Ford Middle School, including about a dozen educators and a handful of students. The talk turned to education and it is clear people in all parts of our state are deeply concerned about the governor’s proposed cuts to the education system.

It’s an issue close to Rory’s heart and we’ll be talking a lot more about it all over the state in the coming weeks and months.
Tomorrow begins early with a breakfast at the Red Lion in Elko and continues with events in Wells and Ely. For those of you in Elko or White Pine County, Rory will also be appearing on the Ruby Radio station affiliates throughout the day as well as on KRJC 95.3 Pure Country in Elko at 10:45 a.m.
And make sure you sign up for Rory’s Twitter feed and become a fan on Facebook to get live updates from the road.
Until tomorrow….
